I worked for 25 years in close connection with the maritime sector, benefiting from the loyal services of seafarers for the import-export of goods that I marketed from all over the world. It is a field I know well, coming from a Breton family of merchant marine officers over several generations, who have faced the perils of navigation.
For these two reasons, I have immense respect and deep gratitude for those who go to sea for their livelihood. And to give back to the sea what it has offered me, I support the SNSM - National Society for Sea Rescue, and more specifically the Saint-Jean-de-Luz Station due to a personal attachment to the Basque Coast.
The SNSM carries out five main missions to protect human lives at sea and along the coast:
Sea rescue
Intervene 24/7, from its rescue stations, to assist vessels and people in distress at sea (upon request from the CROSS).
Coastal rescue
Ensure the surveillance of beaches and provide assistance to swimmers and coastal users through the action of lifeguards.
Civil protection
Participate in rescue operations and ensure safety during nautical or land events thanks to its civil security accreditation.
Training
Teach rescue, first aid, and navigation techniques to future rescuers and volunteers within its training centres.
Prevention
Raise public awareness and inform sea or beach users about the risks associated with water activities and swimming.
